How to make Portobello mushroom burger
A Portobello mushroom burger is a great vegetarian option that's packed with flavor. Here's how you can make it:
Ingredients:
4 large Portobello mushroom caps (stem removed)
4 burger buns
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 cloves garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of cheese (optional, such as provolone or Swiss)
Toppings of your choice (e.g., lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, pickles, etc.)
Condiments (e.g., mayo, ketchup, mustard)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mushrooms:
Clean the mushrooms by gently wiping them with a damp cloth to remove any dirt. Remove the stems if they are still attached.
2. Marinate the Mushrooms:
In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, minced garlic, oregano (if using), salt, and pepper.
Place the mushroom caps in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour the marinade over them. Make sure both sides are coated. Let them marinate for 15-30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
3. Grill the Mushrooms:
Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium heat.
Remove the mushrooms from the marinade and grill them for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are tender and have nice grill marks. You can also brush on any remaining marinade while they cook.
If you want cheese on your burger, place a slice of cheese on top of each mushroom cap during the last 1-2 minutes of grilling, allowing it to melt.
4. Toast the Buns:
While the mushrooms are grilling, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a skillet.
5. Assemble the Burger:
Place the grilled Portobello mushroom cap on the bottom half of the bun.
Add your choice of toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, avocado, etc.) and condiments.
Top with the other half of the bun.
6. Serve:
Serve the burger immediately, along with sides like sweet potato fries or a salad.
Enjoy your delicious and hearty Portobello mushroom burger!
