Method for making veg chowmein
Here's a simple recipe for making delicious veg chowmein:
Ingredients
Noodles: 200g (chowmein noodles or any other variety)
Vegetables:
- Carrot: 1, julienned
- Bell peppers (red, yellow, green): 1 each, thinly sliced
- Cabbage: 1 cup, shredded
- Beans: 1/2 cup, thinly sliced
- Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger: 1-inch piece, minced
- Green onions: 2, chopped
- Soy sauce: 3 tbsp
- Oyster sauce: 1 tbsp (optional, or use additional soy sauce for a vegetarian version)
- Sesame oil: 1 tbsp
- Vegetable oil: 2 tbsp
- Salt: to taste
- Black pepper: to taste
- Chili sauce or red pepper flakes: to taste (optional)
Instructions
1. Cook the Noodles:
- Boil water in a large pot. Add the noodles and cook according to the package instructions until they are al dente.
- Drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. Toss with a little oil to prevent sticking.
2. Prepare the Vegetables:
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
3. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
- Add carrots and beans to the pan. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften.
- Add bell peppers and cabbage. Continue to stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes until all vegetables are tender-crisp.
4. Add the Noodles:
- Add the cooked noodles to the pan with the vegetables.
- Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil.
- Toss everything together to combine well and heat through.
5. Season and Serve:
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- If desired, add chili sauce or red pepper flakes for extra heat.
- Garnish with chopped green onions.
6. Serve:
- Serve hot as a main dish or a side.
